Child Protection Committees Scotland – ‘What If You’re Right?’ Campaign

Child Protection Committees Scotland and Barnardo’s Scotland launch a new joint campaign raising awareness about child sexual abuse on 6 February 2024.

Titled What If You’re Right?, the campaign’s content and key messages have all been developed from conversations held with adult survivors of child sexual abuse. We heard from three individuals and several members of four CSA survivor groups across Scotland – Survivors Unite, In Care Survivors, The Moira Anderson Foundation and Break the Silence.

Testimony from the survivors made it clear that child sexual abuse not only harms children at the time of the abuse, but the consequences can last for a lifetime. Trauma experienced as a result of child sexual abuse can ruin lives, result in lifelong physical and psychological problems and rob victims of a better future.

This campaign urges ALL adults to pay attention to their gut, to take time to really listen, look and notice when things don’t seem right for a child, or pay extra attention if there is a change in the way a child usually behaves. If there’s any suggestion that a child might be being sexually abused, instead of worrying about being wrong and doing nothing, the campaign prompts the public to ask themselves What If You’re Right? and to take action which may reduce harm both now and in the long term.
