The Big Help Out in Scotland

The Big Help Out launches UK wide today – (20th March 2023) 

The Big Help Out was announced in January 2023 as a National Day of Volunteering taking place on 8th May (across the UK), the Bank Holiday Monday of the King’s Coronation weekend. Today the campaign has officially been launched! 

There are many of ways for Volunteers and Volunteering Involving Organisations to get involved and support The Big Help Out. From advertising volunteer opportunities, promoting services to hosting events and more.   

All the ways you can support the campaign, including partner toolkit, can be found here on the Volunteer Scotland website. 

Volunteer Involving Organisations 

There are a number of ways you can support The Big Help Out: 

Plan events for May 8th and beyond. It could be taster sessions to help people experience what you do, or something special for the day. 

Spread the word, using the #TheBigHelpOut hashtag. This partner toolkit (opens as a pdf) provides helpful suggestions for social media, newsletters and web posts. 

Advertise your opportunities to volunteer (in the usual ways). Remember to add the phrase The Big Help Out in any description. 


You can find thousands of opportunities to volunteer at any time. 

However, you can also look out for opportunities specific to the Big Help Out as these are added in the run up to May 8th. If you’re not sure if volunteering is for you, this page explains the benefits.
